Housed in a magnificent Renaissance pavilion testifying to the power of the Dukes of Bourbon, the Anne-de-Beaujeu museum presents numerous art and archeology collections. Between Gallo-Roman figurines in white earth, medieval sculptures, collections of 19th century paintings, the Bourbonnais reveals its entire history.
To complete this immersion in the Art of Bourbonnais, a visit to Maison Mantin is an essential stop. This residence built to order of Louis Mantin, a wealthy 19th century bourgeois, has a rich decor of gilded leathers, Aubusson tapestries, old stained glass windows accompanied by a large collection of objects bearing the image of its owner.
Baroque treasures
This exhibition highlights the Baroque period through artistic commissions from the nobility and clergy in Bourbonnais in the 17th century. It presents unpublished paintings from this period of rich creation, several of which have never been exhibited.
A period often less well considered, the “Seicento” nevertheless has treasures of painting in this province as well as intense artistic activity, linked to commissions from the nobility and the clergy. Thanks to loans from both national museums and regional institutions, the Anne-de-Beaujeu museum offers the opportunity to (re)discover this period, which gave birth to numerous masterpieces, signed by artists like Laurent de la Hyre, Claude Vignon, Pierre Parrocel, Isaac Moillon, or Rémy Vuibert, student of Simon Vouet.
